Lorry and Bus Theory Test Practice
Categories C and D, and Driver CPC part 1.
The lorry and bus theory test is roughly twice the car test and is billed as separate parts. Part 1a is the multiple choice, part 1b is hazard perception, and each carries its own price, so the cost of getting it wrong is higher than for a car candidate.
The bank is larger and covers ground a car driver never meets: vehicle dimensions, load security, tachographs, drivers hours, and the handling of a vehicle that cannot stop or turn like a car. Do not revise for it using car material.
The format
100 multiple choice questions in 115 minutes, with 85 correct needed to pass. The hazard perception part is 19 clips scored out of 100, and you need 67. You have to pass both parts.
What it costs to get it wrong
Part 1a and part 1b are billed separately and come to £37 together, and you pay again for each attempt. More than half of car theory tests end in a fail: DVSA figures for April 2025 to March 2026 put the pass rate at 44.8% across 2,924,430 tests. Compare every theory test fee.
