ADI Part 1 theory test practice
Part 1 is the theory exam you sit to start qualifying as an approved driving instructor. It is 100 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, and it is marked twice: on the whole paper and on each of four subject bands separately.
| Questions | 100 |
| Time | 90 minutes |
| Overall pass mark | 85 of 100 |
| In every band | 20 of 25 |
| Fee, each attempt | £81 |
The band rule, which is what catches people
The 100 questions are split into four bands of 25. You need 85 correct overall AND at least 20 of 25 in every single band. Miss the band minimum by one and you have failed the whole test, however well the other three went - so a paper scoring 94 with 19 in one band is a fail, and another £81.
The four bands
Road procedure
Traffic signs and signals, car control, pedestrians and mechanical knowledge
Driving test, disabilities and the law

What you get here
The 412 ADI Part 1 revision questions, used under licence from DVSA - the DVSA revision question bank, used under licence. Practise a band at a time, or sit a full mock in the real format: 100 questions drawn 25 from each band, marked the way the real one is.
Every mock result shows each band against its own minimum, not just a total, because the total on its own can tell you that you passed a test you failed. Questions you get wrong come back on a schedule until you have them.
When you qualify, bring your pupils
Instructors here link their pupils and every one of them gets full access while the instructor subscribes - and the instructor gets a roster showing who has actually been revising. The same subscription covers the instructor's own study, so if you are already teaching under a trainee licence, your Part 1 revision is included in it.
